Object£ºWe attempted to compare between abstinent group and drinking group to find prognostic factors of alcoholics
Method£ºWe examined 30 men alcoholics who attend AA and 30 men alcoholics who admitted in alcoholic open ward
in our hospital. We performed Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-¥²-R (SCID) and investigated demographic data,
alcoholic history, family history, motivation for abstinence, most helpful treatment and most difficult thing in alcohol treatment
Result£ºResults of this study were as follows£º1) The abstinence group showed longer education years than drinking
group (p£½.048) 2) The abstinence group showed more admission Tx than drinking group in the past (p£½.033) 3) The
abstinence group showed earlier Tx initiation than drinking group (p£½.045) 4) Patients of AA group reported that most
helpful treatment factors for alcohol abstinence are AA and supporter 5) Alcoholic patients reported that most difficult
problems during alcohol treatment are familial problem and then social, medical problem
Conclusion£ºThe results suggest that good prognostic indicators of alcoholic abstinence are longer education years, more admission rate and earlier Tx initiation. Further longitudinal study for prognostic factor and role of AA in abstinence is needed.
